how do you get wax off of a nice table cloth?
there's a bunch of wax on the red table cloth and i need it out!!
I've done some batiking, which involves covering fabric with wax and then removing the wax. Here's my method.
First, you'll need to get the majority of the wax out. Either put the tablecloth in the freezer, or somewhere else quite cold, and see if you can't chip most of the wax off.
Next, I'd get almost all the rest of the wax out by layering clean white cloth or a brown paper bag (right next to the tablecloth) and newspaper (next to the brown paper) and then ironing over the whole she-bang. You use the kraft paper to prevent newspaper ink from transferring to the tablecloth. Keep changing out the paper as it becomes saturated with wax until you have almost all the wax out. Be very very careful, since wax is flammable. It can easily catch fire on the iron. have a scrap towel or something handy to smother the iron with if wax gets onto it and catches fire.
Once you have almost all the wax out, your tablecloth will still be a little bit stiff from the residual wax. Take it to a good dry cleaner. The dry cleaning solution will dissolve the wax, and your tablecloth will come back soft and wax free.
