How can I tell if this is stainless steel?
I don't know if the metal used for my metal strainer is stainless steel or not? It doesn't say anything about what metal it is on the strainer, and the packaging disappeared an eon ago. Is there a way to test it, or examine it to test to see if it is stainless steel? Maybe by using flame, or magnets or chemicals? If it is any other metal except stainless steel, it may be harmful for certain very sensitive recipe ingredients I frequently use. Thank you.
there is a hand held device that is called a PMI.
This uses a radioactive source and measures the energy returned. This will tell you the proportions of each element.
Better ones will tell you exactly what alloy it is.
