Is platinum (Pt) more or less reactive than gold (Au)?
I thought platinum must be more reactive since it decays to become gold, but apparently it's the other way round. I asked my Physics teacher and he said he thought I was right, my Chemistry teacher didn't know, and the web says I'm wrong! Which is it and why?? 
Input from any scientists would be much appreciated!
Gippy, thanks for answering. I'm in High School too. It's weird that your book says platinum is more reactive (like I thought) - everywhere else I've looked it says I'm wrong. I Googled "reactivity series" and looked at the image results, but they all say gold is more reactive, as does the BBC's GCSE Bitesize. I think I'll wait for a few more people

I've just asked a different teacher at school, and for those wondering:
Platinum can be more or less reactive depending upon what you do with it. It's often used as a catalyst (e.g. in catalytic converters in cars), but is usually shown as less reactive than gold in the reactivity series.
I'm only a highschool chem. student, but I've got Pt just above Au on the activity series, so I guess Pt is slightly more reactive...
