Can anyone give me first hand advice on caring for a Mini Lop rabbit?
I have a lot of questions so here goes.
1. How much money is needed to pay for that first few days of buying the actual rabbit, the cage, food etc.?
2. How long does the Mini Lop live? Can I have a small cage or a big one? (I AM on a budget.)
3.What bedding is the best to use?
4. Do they like sleeping in bags or what?
5. Can you give your Mini Lop a walk?
6. Do Mini Lops like to hang out with you and sit on your lap when you're on the computer or reading?
7. What are the downsides to a Mini Lop?
8. Do they shed? When?
9. Male or female?
10. Is it good to get one or two?
11. Can I leave it in my room when I got school?
Please help me! I would really love to have a Mini Lop but can't seem to find a good informational website. Thanks!
1. The rabbit will cost any where from $10-30, the cage will b like $50, a 50lb bag of rabbit chow is $10, but blue seal 15lb of bunny 16 is $8 (i suggest you buy the 15lb, dont go buy those little bags of food) water bottle $3, and some timothy hay you can buy a bale for $5 or a small bag for $5. A salt roll is 50 cents. You may want a harness, thats like $5. And some treats $2
2. Mini Lops live for between 60-10 years you cage can be not smaller than 18in by 24 inches. Buy a metal cage with a pull out tray on the bottom, it will make cleaning easier.
3. Pine shavings, not cedar, cedar is bad for their respiratory system. I suggest you buy a big back for $5 bucks. will last long.
4. Just put an old shirt or towel in the cage so the bunny has some thing soft to sit on. You can buy them a plastic iglue thing but they will eat it.
5. You can buy them a little harness and take them on little walks, but its more like they walk you lol.
6. They sure do, but watch out it may pee on you. Especially males. My male chews on my shirt sometimes.
7. There really arent many down sides, except the smell. If you get a male the smell will be much much stronger, i would suggest a female unless you plan to fix your rabbit.
8. They shed, but if you keep them in the house they wont shed out that much. Usually in the spring. Just by a cat slicker brush and use that to groom them. O and some cat nail clippers. You'll need to clip its nails when the grow long. Just grap the bunnies ears and the scruff of it neck and flip it on its back, or hold it. Retrack the nail and just clip the tip. If it bleeds DO NOT WORRY. just dip it in flour. it will stop soon. or you can have a vet do this.
9. Female for a house bunny
10. Just get one. Bunnies really dont like to live in the same cage as eachother. Mine are happy alone.
11. In a cage, if you leave it out it will pee, chew on your walls, get into things, and leave droppings. I wouldnt suggest it.
Last tip, if your on a buget, buy your feed, hay, and shavings in bulk bags.
Need anymore help, feel free to e-mail me.
I breed, show, and love American Fuzzy Lops, the fuzzier version of the Mini. I am happy to help out.
